Military operation in Ukraine, day 834 – NATO to interfere from Ukrainian side

In a significant development on the 834th day of the military operation in Ukraine, NATO has announced plans to expand its cooperation with Ukraine, marking a crucial turn in the ongoing conflict. This collaboration will include advancements in defense technologies and enhanced intelligence sharing about Russia’s capabilities, particularly in the realm of electronic warfare. The move, reported by Bloomberg, aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense against increasing Russian aggression.

In parallel, the Supreme Court of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) sentenced a 23-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Denis Zadyraka, to 12 years in a high-security penal colony. Zadyraka was convicted of transferring information about the movement and locations of Russian military personnel to Ukrainian special services in 2022. This critical intelligence concerned the Kremensk and Svatov districts. The announcement was made by Elena Usacheva, the senior assistant prosecutor of the LPR for media interaction.

Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin underscored the necessity of preventing Russian President Vladimir Putin from further acts of aggression. In an interview with CNN, Austin said, “[W]hat we have done is provided Ukraine the ability to counter fire, to fire back at those Russian troops that are firing at them and to be able to take out their artillery batteries as they’re firing at the Ukrainians.”

Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains dire. Three individuals were injured in shelling incidents in the Ukrainian-controlled Dnipropetrovsk region, as reported by regional administration head Sergey Lysak. Additionally, around 6:00 PM Moscow time, a Ukrainian drone was destroyed over the Belgorod region, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

In a related strategic move, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, announced a reduction in General Staff units. This restructuring is part of a broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of Ukraine’s military command system and eliminate redundant functions. These changes are part of a long-term development strategy for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, planned until 2035.

On the economic front, Ukraine is discussing the restructuring of its debt with creditors and government bondholders, as reported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The ongoing conflict has strained Ukraine’s economy, making these discussions crucial for the country’s financial stability.

The conflict continues to impact civilian infrastructure severely. A power line in the village of Prilesye was damaged by shelling from Ukrainian forces, leaving residents without electricity. Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that two private houses and a car were damaged in a drone attack in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka. Additionally, a drone crashed into a tree in the village of Murom, damaging the roof of a private house.

Ukrainian forces targeted Russian emergency workers in Lysychansk after the city was shelled, although no injuries were reported, according to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry. In another incident, explosions in the village of Bezimennoe in the Grayvoron urban district caused damage to four cars, one of which was completely destroyed, and shattered windows in a private residence.

During a commemorative event in Normandy on the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in France, Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to addressing the Ukrainian crisis. He emphasized the importance of a robust response to NATO’s increased involvement in Ukraine.

In the contested regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, shelling has intensified due to the deployment of Western long-range weaponry. Luhansk leader Leonid Pasechnik reported frequent targeting of Lugansk and Krasnodon. Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) head Denis Pushilin highlighted the successes of Russian troops in Avdiivka during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Furthermore, the creation of a new federal district in Russia, incorporating the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson regions, and Crimea, is imminent. Evgeny Balitsky, governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, suggested that the new district might be named Novorossiya.

Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, with cumulative losses reaching up to 9 GW. Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated during a meeting of the IAEA board of governors in Vienna that Russia aims for a complete blackout in Ukraine.
