Hungarian PM tells that the participation in NATO activities should be voluntary

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that participation in the alliance’s activities outside the borders of participating countries should be voluntary, Barron’s reports.

“I asked the Secretary-General to clarify that all NATO military actions outside the territory of the alliance, in accordance with NATO rules and traditions, can only be voluntary,” Orbán said.

He added that Stoltenberg confirmed this and Hungary received the necessary guarantees.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also emphasized that the country opposes the NATO mission in Ukraine, but cannot prevent it, since it is supported by the majority of the alliance member countries.

Before this, Orban said that the start of negotiations on Ukraine and the end of the conflict in Ukraine would become possible if the forces that want peace as quickly as possible won the elections in the United States and the European Parliament.
