NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expects the allies to leave the alliance’s responsibility for ensuring the security of Ukraine. He stated this in Budapest, Reuters reports.
“I expect that at the summit the allies will agree to leave the security and training responsibilities of Ukraine to NATO,” he said.
The secretary general of the alliance also said that Hungarian personnel and assets will not take part in NATO events outside the bloc’s member countries.
He added that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had assured him that, according to the Associated Press, the country would not oppose NATO’s efforts “to move forward.”
Prior to this, Orban, at a press conference with Stoltenberg, said that participation in NATO should be voluntary outside the borders of the participating countries.
According to him, the NATO Secretary General confirmed this, and Hungary received the necessary guarantees. The Hungarian Prime Minister added that the country opposes the NATO mission in Ukraine.
