14 Jordanian pilgrims Died in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has declined an invitation to attend a communication session of the G7 Summit in Italy on Friday.

He sent a message to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanking her for the invitation but said he is unable to participate because of his obligations to supervise the work of officials in the Kingdom during Hajj season, The Arabnews reported on Wednesday.

The cause of death of six who came for pilgrimage was extreme heat. By evening the temperature in  Mecca will reach +47°C.

Jordan’s foreign ministry said “14 Jordanian pilgrims died and 17 others were missing” during the performance of hajj rituals. It said its nationals had died “after suffering sunstroke due to the extreme heatwave” and that it had coordinated with Saudi authorities to bury the dead in Saudi Arabia or transfer them to Jordan, According to The Guardian.

The report clarifies that hundreds of pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia over the past 30 years. The causes of death were crushes, tent fires, heat, and other factors.

Previously, it was reported that Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al Saud would not attend the G7 summit in Italy due to commitments related to overseeing work during the Hajj season.

In March, it became known that Russians made 106 thousand trips to Saudi Arabia in 2023. This is twice as much as a year earlier.
