President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, announced that the text of the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan has been agreed upon by 80-90%. Speaking at the II Shusha Global Media Forum on “Unmasking False Narratives: Confronting Disinformation,” Aliyev emphasized that the real progress on the peace process only began six months ago, according to Azeri news website Azertag.
According to information provided by the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, the text of the peace treaty is 80-90% agreed upon, Aliyev stated.
However, Aliyev highlighted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s refusal to participate in negotiations in the UK has jeopardized the signing of the peace treaty. Aliyev questioned why Pashinyan visited London if he was unwilling to engage in talks with the British Prime Minister.
The refusal of Pashinyan to meet with Aliyev was previously reported by Hikmet Hajiyev, an aide to the Azerbaijani president. Hajiyev stated that the meeting was proposed by the British side, and Pashinyan’s refusal is seen as a retreat from the peace agenda.
Earlier, Pashinyan had declared that Yerevan is ready to elevate its relations with Washington to a strategic partnership, calling Americans a friendly people. He emphasized the importance of the US role in achieving peace in the region and expressed deep appreciation for American support for Armenia’s independence, democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as per the 1991 declaration.
