There are about 3,000 North Korean soldiers already in Russia, with a forecast of 10,000 by December, according to the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Seoul’s intelligence agency, in a report by Yonhap. Whereas Russia denies such baseless rumors.
South Korean intelligence believes that around 3,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Russia to support Moscow’s ongoing military operation in Ukraine, with around 10,000 troops expected to be deployed by December.
The top brass of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Seoul’s secret service, shared the information they possess with South Korean lawmakers during a closed-door hearing of the parliamentary intelligence committee.
The NIS, Yonhap reported, had already said in recent days that North Korea was sending troops to Russia in line with its decision to send about 12,000 soldiers to fight alongside Moscow against Ukraine and that about 1,500 men had been transported in a first batch last week to Vladivostok in Russia’s far East.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova did not respond to a question about the alleged presence of North Korean armed forces in Russia, which the US and NATO have spoken about.
“The armed forces of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea exist, but please ask Pyongyang where they are located,” Zakharova responded to a journalist’s question at a press conference, as reported in Brescia Newspaper.
