BRICS subscription on hold till further notice

BRICS will focus on partnerships, welcoming selected countries as strategic partners instead of expanding membership.

The heads of state of the BRICS member states decided at the BRICS summit in Kazan not to accept new countries into the association for now, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday evening at the end of the summit of the BRICS group in Kazan: a list of countries has been determined so that among them, the countries that are agreed upon by the nine main member countries can become partners with BRICS to cooperate.

He pointed out that in this meeting, a regulation was drafted on how to accept the partner country and the scope of cooperation of the partner country with other countries, in which meetings they should participate, and in which institutions they should be a member. These cases were determined in this meeting.

The Foreign Affairs Minister said: that BRICS will play a more influential role in the future of the world order, and therefore, countries are interested in joining this group.

The BRICS summit kicked off in Kazan on October 22 and will run until October 24. Various world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, attended the meeting.

BRICS is an international group of five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia joined BRICS in 2024. Today, the association is turning into a powerful platform for global cooperation that supports a multipolar world order.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned BRICS members about the dangers of other people’s economic platforms.
