Lukashenko highlights key proposals from Russia at BRICS summit

They affect everyone, the President of Belarus clarified

Russia made serious proposals at the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan that affect everyone. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to this, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said “It’s not just something that concerns only Russia, but it concerns everyone today or will concern everyone tomorrow”.

Lukashenko further said during the BRICS summit in Russia many countries spoke more about their own problems than about global initiatives. “Even the founders, the five countries, and those that have become permanent members of BRICS, today proceed from the fact that “as far as this will concern me”. Everyone sees themselves there, and the organization is for seeing common problems. This is what BRICS is still lacking”.

The 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, which is the key event of the Russian Federation’s presidency of the association, was held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. On the second day of the summit, its participants adopted the Kazan Declaration. The main topics of the document include the development of the association, the position on global problems, and the settlement of regional crises, including in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The BRICS group was created in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia joined on 1 January 2024. The Kazan summit was the first time they participated as full members.
