Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that he discussed with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Kazan, Russia the comprehensive development of cooperation, including energy and military-technical cooperation.
“We discussed with President Putin efforts to comprehensively develop our cooperation, including cooperation in energy and military-technical cooperation,” Maduro said in a comment to the media, “The criminal sanctions that the US imposed on Venezuela and Russia are a legacy of the old world, Western countries want to dominate, they want to manipulate freedom, they want to manipulate with the dollar and prevent the world from moving forward,” Maduro added, commenting on the sanctions.
Maduro arrived in Kazan to attend the BRICS summit on October 22. He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 23 and also addressed the plenary session with the media.
The 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, which is the key event of the Russian Federation’s presidency of the association, was held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. On the second day of the summit, its participants adopted the Kazan Declaration. The main topics of the document include the development of the association, the position on global problems, and the settlement of regional crises, including in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The BRICS group was created in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joined on January 1, 2024. The Kazan summit was the first in which they participated as full members.
