Russia determined to use nuclear missiles if Ukraine uses American ATACMS

Escalating tensions between Moscow and the West since Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine has reached new heights. The latest developments center around Russia’s approval of a doctrine permitting nuclear retaliation in response to ATACMS ballistic missile attacks. biden administration has authorized Ukraine to use long-range American missiles ATACMS on Russian territory.

“Russia considers nuclear weapons solely as a deterrent, to be used only as a last resort under extreme circumstances,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated. He clarified that the newly approved doctrine allows for a nuclear response if Western-supplied missiles are used by Ukraine against Russian territory, underscoring concerns that the West is deliberately provoking Russia.

Russia has approved a new doctrine recognizing the right to use nuclear weapons in response to the ballistic missile attacks after the US allowed the long-range ATACMS missiles it provided to Ukraine to attack inside Russian territory.

The new doctrine allows Russia to respond with a nuclear missile if a country launches a ballistic missile attack on Russian territory with the support of another nuclear-armed country, and attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles or warplanes are also included in this scope.

“Aggression by an alliance [NATO] member” against Russia is also defined as a development that may result in a nuclear response, and all alliance members to which the country in question is affiliated will also be considered parties to the possible aggression.

According to Pravda, President Putin, at a meeting with Security Council members on September 25, emphasized that the modern military-political situation has changed, saying, “It is important to predict the development of the situation and, accordingly, adapt the provisions of the strategic planning document to current realities.”
