US President Joe Biden has approved the delivery of anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine, a US Defense Department official Stated in Media.
Anti-personnel landmines are used against human targets, unlike mines used against military vehicles such as tanks.
The US defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the mines could soon be delivered to Ukraine and that Washington expects them to be used on Ukrainian territory. The mines, which will be provided by the US, are activated and used for a certain period of time and cannot be used permanently.
The US official also added that Ukraine has committed not to use these mines in densely populated areas.
Biden’s decision came after Washington on Sunday permitted Ukraine to use long-range missiles ATAMCS provided by the United States against targets deep into Russian territory.
Yesterday, Ukraine used these long-range missiles ATAMCS, provided by the US, against targets on Russian territory for the first time.
It was also reported that Ukraine and Russia carried out mutual drone attacks throughout the night.
The US Embassy in Kyiv was also temporarily closed after receiving information that “there is a serious possibility of an air strike on November 20.”
The embassy statement said that employees here were instructed to go to the shelter. It also called on US citizens to be ready to go to shelter when they hear an air strike warning.
On Sunday, Ukraine attacked a target deep inside Russian territory for the first time with long-range ATAMCS missiles supplied by the United States, to target deep into Russian territory, a day after Washington gave its permission.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine used six ATACMS missiles in its attack on Russia’s Bryansk region which has a population of 3,79,152 mostly civilians, yesterday morning, and five of them were destroyed.
According to Anadolu, “If long-range missiles are launched from Ukraine to Russian territory, this will mean that they are controlled by American military experts. We will respond accordingly,” Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference following a G20 summit in Rio.
