The Economic Congress of the VI International Municipal Forum (IMF) of the BRICS countries, which will open in St. Petersburg on November 21, will bring together delegates from Russia and more than 50 countries. The key theme of the event is “Public Health Protection,” said the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations, which is a co-organizer.
“The event will be attended by more than 3,500 people, including foreign delegates from 57 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Among those invited are leading experts, representatives of government agencies, businesses, and the academic community of the BRICS countries,” the committee said in a statement.
In addition to healthcare, current issues in the areas of economics, youth policy, business tourism development, ecology and environmental management, and others will be discussed. At sessions and round tables within the framework of the congress, opinion leaders, representatives of business, state and municipal authorities will touch upon the topics of economic sustainability of cities, infrastructure development, digitalization of urban space, support for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as the implementation of environmental projects.
The plenary session of the congress, which will take place in the B. N. Yeltsin Presidential Library, will be devoted to the topic of interparliamentary and inter-municipal cooperation as a key factor in the economic development of regions. It is noted that the participants will pay special attention to issues of the effective use of legislative mechanisms to stimulate regional development and improve the quality of life of the population.
The Economic Congress will be held until November 22 and will be the final event of the VI International Municipal Forum of the BRICS countries in 2024. The concept of this forum is distinguished by its focus on the development of international multilateral relations within the framework of public diplomacy. Its task is to promote the integration of positive world experience, the implementation of state tasks at the local level, the development of social and economic well-being of territories, and the introduction of information, digital, and innovative technologies in the activities of cities.
