Protests in Georgia Spark Investigation into Violent Power Takeover Attempt

The State Security Service of Georgia has reported an attempt at a violent takeover of power in the country.

According to The Georgian Tabula the document, the special services are conducting an investigation under the article “Conspiracy or rebellion for the purpose of violently changing the constitutional order in Georgia.”

The department believes that during the ongoing actions, the leaders of specific political parties and heads of non-governmental organizations are trying to organize provocations. The State Security Service called on the demonstrators not to fall for them, and also reminded them of the punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

Since November 28, protests have continued in the Georgian capital , caused by the authorities’ decision to suspend negotiations on joining the European Union until 2028. At the same time, the police dispersed protesters near the parliament building using water cannons and tear gas. Participants in the protest, journalists and law enforcement officers were injured.
