Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

“No Grounds” for Sending German Troops to Ukraine, Says German Defence Commissioner Eva Högl

There are currently no grounds for sending German troops to Ukraine, Bundestag Defence Commissioner Eva Högl said in an interview with the Funke media group.

According to Pravda, “Currently, there are no grounds for a peacekeeping mission and the deployment of NATO ground forces in Ukraine. Therefore, it is inappropriate to speculate about the possible participation of the Bundeswehr now,” Hoegl said.

At the same time, she argued that the current task of the Bundeswehr is “to continue to provide Ukraine with the maximum possible support through material assistance and training.”

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said earlier that German troops could be sent to Ukraine to ensure peace in the event of a ceasefire. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a meeting with European commissioners who arrived in Kyiv that if he raised the issue of foreign troops in the conflict zone in Ukraine, the country would lose half of its allies.

In turn, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized during his speech in the Bundestag that sending German military personnel to Ukraine is out of the question.

Earlier, the head of the SVR named the reason for the talks about freezing the conflict in Ukraine.
