Russia is closely monitoring Syria situation, Says Dmitry Peskov

Russia is actively monitoring the escalating situation in Syria, especially following the recent offensive by opposition groups in Aleppo province. According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Moscow is in continuous dialogue with the Syrian authorities and is assessing the situation closely to determine the level of support required. This comes after a major offensive on November 28, during which opposition forces captured several towns, including the strategically significant cities of Urm al-Sughra and Anjar.

The situation intensified when terrorist groups, including HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham), launched an assault on government-controlled areas of Aleppo. This has led to further clashes and airstrikes by Russian forces, particularly around Aleppo and Idlib, to push back militant advances. These actions highlight Russia’s ongoing commitment to supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad despite the complex regional dynamics, According to MoscowTimes.

Iran, a key ally of Assad, also expressed its continued military support, emphasizing the strategic importance of backing the Syrian government amid these turbulent times. Both Russian and Iranian forces have been deeply involved in the Syrian conflict, with Russia’s intervention starting in 2015. However, despite these efforts, recent developments indicate the situation in Aleppo remains precarious, with analysts questioning the long-term effectiveness of the Russian presence.

As Russia evaluates the unfolding situation, its military actions are aimed at countering these militant offensives and restoring stability to key areas under Syrian control. However, the complex web of international interests, including the involvement of the US and regional powers like Turkey, complicates any swift resolution.
