Serbia opposes adoption of law on foreign agents

There is no need to adopt a law on foreign agents in Serbia. This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during his address to the nation.

According to Aleksandar Vucic, several reasons influenced the adoption of this decision.

“Indeed, many in the Serbian Progressive Party faction believe that there are good elements in this, taken from the legislation of the United States, Western Europe, and Russia, which could be adopted, but my answer is no,” Vucic said.

The corresponding initiative was put forward by the Movement of Socialists party. The bill “On a Special Register of Agents of Foreign Influence” proposes to oblige the Ministry of Justice of Serbia to register non-profit organizations involved in election processes and financed from abroad. The document also provides for fines for violating the rules. Thus, they would amount to from 5 thousand to 2 million dinars.

The RTS television channel reported that the European Union did not open the second stage of negotiations with Serbia on the republic’s accession to the commonwealth due to the country’s position on anti-Russian sanctions. According to the channel, seven European countries, including Croatia and the Netherlands, spoke out against continuing the dialogue.

Earlier, Vucic said that Serbia would become a member of the EU if it supported anti-Russian sanctions.
