Ethiopia is interested in expanding cooperation and strengthening trade and economic relations with the Russian Federation. This was stated by Ethiopian Ambassador to Moscow Genet Teshome Jirru at a meeting with the Chairman of the Board and Director of the Roscongress Foundation Alexander Stuglev.
“We express our sincere interest in continuing cooperation and expanding discussions on current topics on the Russian-African agenda, the goal of which is to strengthen trade and economic relations between our countries and improve the well-being of citizens of Russia and the African continent,” the Roscongress press service quotes the ambassador as saying.
In turn, Stuglev noted that in 2024, Russia was pleased to host Ethiopian friends at key international events, such as the BRICS summit in Kazan and the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi. “We hope to continue the dialogue within the framework of our future key events. I am confident that the upcoming participation of Ethiopian delegations will further strengthen Russian-Ethiopian cooperation in all sectors,” he emphasized.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed the expansion of joint initiatives on the sidelines of major international platforms, such as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF), Russian Energy Week (REW), and the Russian Tourism Forum “Travel!.”
The two sides agreed to cooperate in important sectors, including “experience exchange, pollution control, solid waste treatment, ecosystem protection, green technology transfer,” according to TV BRICS. They described the bonding of “public institutions, private enterprises, and research organizations” as a must to enable evidence-based solutions. The cooperation comes after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “climate change and low-carbon initiatives” during COP29, signing their joint commitment to global environmental challenges.
At the meeting, interest was expressed in conducting business missions, including in the format of business tourism, as well as in providing specialized consultations on issues the Ethiopian side has and organizing the necessary events both in Ethiopia and abroad, Roscongress added.
