Lithuanian speaker Saulius Skvernelis declares Belarusian presidential elections invalid in advance

The Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis has declared the presidential elections in Belarus, which will take place at the end of January, invalid in advance.

“The process that awaits Belarus cannot be called elections”, Saulius Skvernelis said.

According to Skvernelis, “It is necessary to immediately summarize that this will have nothing to do with the elections”.

Before this, Lithuania did not recognize the results of the 2020 presidential elections in Belarus.

On January 7, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, while attending a Christmas service at the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Logoisk, said that a dictatorship like the one in Belarus is better than a democracy like the one in Ukraine. On January 3, Lukashenko said that the presidential elections in Belarus should be made “like a holiday,” excluding the “American show” with shooting.

The next presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for January 26, 2025.

Earlier, Lukashenko spoke about the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus.
