Baltic nations should be part of Russia says senior Russian official

All Baltic countries should be part of Russia. The first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Alexei Zhuravlev, commented on the words of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda about Kaliningrad.

“If we are going to review the results of the Second World War, then the entire Baltic region should probably belong to Russia, as it was before the revolution. Including Vilna – today’s Vilnius – which was the capital of the Vilnius Governorate of the Russian Empire from 1795”, Zhuravlev said.

Zhuravlev further added that Russia will defend its territories. The Lithuanian army is one of the weakest in the world, and therefore Vilnius “will not last even a day” in the event of a military confrontation with the Russian Federation. The country will also face a “sad fate” if all NATO countries stand up for it, Zhuravlev emphasized.

The day before, Nauseda declared his claims to the Kaliningrad region. He called Kaliningrad a historically Lithuanian city, which, in his opinion, should be called Karaliaučius.
