Trump raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 20 percent on the grounds that he did not take action to prevent fentanyl from entering the US The Chinese Embassy in Washington reacted to the decision by saying, “If what the US wants is war, whether it is a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we are ready to fight to the end.”
Following US President Trump’s doubling of tariffs on China, the Chinese Embassy in Washington reacted with high tension. Stating that what the US should do in the face of the fentanyl issue is “consult”, the Embassy declared that they are ready to fight the US.
Claiming that China has failed in the fight against fentanyl coming to the US, Trump increased the tariff on China from 10 percent to 20 percent. The Chinese Embassy in Washington responded to the decision on social media.
“If the US wants to solve the fentanyl problem, then the right thing to do is to consult with China, treating each other as equals. If what the US wants is war, we are ready to fight to the end, whether it is a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war,” the embassy said in its post.
If the U.S. truly wants to solve the #fentanyl issue, then the right thing to do is to consult with China by treating each other as equals.
If war is what the U.S. wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end. https://t.co/crPhO02fFE

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian made the following statement yesterday:
“Fentanyl is a weak excuse. The countermeasures we are taking to defend our rights and interests are completely legitimate and necessary.
The United States is responsible for the domestic fentanyl crisis. In the spirit of humanity and goodwill toward the American people, we have taken solid steps to help the United States deal with this problem. Instead of acknowledging our efforts, the United States has sought to blame China.
They are punishing us for helping them. This will not solve the US problem and will undermine our counter-narcotics dialogue and cooperation. Intimidation does not scare us. Bullying does not work for us. The right way to deal with China is not through pressure, coercion, or threats.
“If the United States really wants to solve the fentanyl problem, then the right thing to do is to consult with China and treat each other equally. If what the United States wants is war, whether it’s a tariff war, a trade war, or any other war, we are ready to fight to the end.”
US President Trump imposed a 10 percent customs duty on imports from China with the executive order he signed on February 1. The tariff in question went into effect on February 4.
Trump, who warned that tariffs could increase if they could not reach an agreement with China, announced in a post on his Truth Social account on February 27 that an additional 10 percent tariff would be imposed on China on March 4.
Trump announced yesterday that he was raising tariffs on China from 10 percent to 20 percent, citing “failures in the fight against fentanyl” coming into the country.
