Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

UEFA moved the Super Cup match from Russia to Greece

UEFA has stripped Russia of the right to host the Super Bowl match due to take place in August due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The match between the Champions League and Europa League winners, which opens the new season, was previously scheduled to take place in Kazan, where the 2018 World Cup matches were held.

After a meeting of the executive committee, UEFA announced that the Super Cup will take place on August 16 in Athens at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium, home of the Olympiakos team.

A few days after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February last year, UEFA moved the 2022 Champions League final from Saint Petersburg, but no similar decision was taken for the Super Cup at the time.

Russian clubs have been suspended from competitions under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA since February 28.

The International Olympic Committee has also recommended that sports governing bodies should not hold competitions in Russia.
