The German Foreign Ministry has issued a recommendation advising its citizens to refrain from traveling to Russia. This is especially true for the next few days, from February 20 to 26, when a number of official events will be held in Russia, in connection with which security measures will be tightened. Germans already in Russia are advised to exercise caution and avoid crowds.
The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs separately indicates that holders of two citizenships – Germany and Russia – are considered by the Russian authorities exclusively as citizens of Russia. In the event of conflicting situations, for example concerning conscription for military service, Germany will not be able to provide these persons with consular assistance.
The German Foreign Office particularly warns against travel to Russian regions close to the border with Ukraine – Rostov, Krasnodar, Saratov, Voronezh and Volgograd, and other border regions.
On February 13, the United States Embassy in Moscow recommended US citizens living or staying in Russia to leave the country. Last year, the US Embassy twice urged Americans to “leave Russia immediately” – the first time on February 28, days after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and again on September 28, shortly after the announcement of the mobilization.
At the same time, a similar appeal to its citizens was made byO Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. On September 26, 2022, the recommendation not to visit Russia, and for those who are already there, to leave it as soon as possible, appeared on the website of the Bulgarian Embassy in Moscow, and on September 28 , the same was declared Embassy of Romania.
