Today, more than a million people who lost their homes after the earthquake live in temporary accommodation – in stadiums, gymnasiums, hotels and hostels.According to UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Afshan Khan, he visited one of the centers in Kahramanmarash, where first nine thousand people took refuge, now almost 18 thousand people live in this center. Almost a third of them are children. According to Khan, the center is very crowded, “the conditions are terrible”.He also noted that many victims lack food and water and access to medical services is limited. Khan also expressed concern that many children are now unable to study.
