In less than a week, pro-Russian officials reported at least fourteen explosions in the occupied territories near Mariupol, Ukraine.
This is stated in the British Ministry of Defense’s progress report on the progress of the war.
The explosions took place at a fuel storage facility and a large steel mill used as a base by Russian forces.
Mariupol is about 80 km from the front line and the Russians are likely concerned about unexplained explosions in an area they thought was beyond the reach of the Ukrainians, the ministry said in its situation report.
Moreover, Mariupol is an important part of Russia’s supply line.
