Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Bulgaria donates more than $1 billion in arms to Ukraine

In two years, Bulgaria has supplied Ukraine with weapons worth more than a billion dollars via third countries. Deliveries began even before the start of the Russian special operation, according to a survey by the EURActiv portal.
Bulgarian companies do not sell arms and ammunition directly to Ukrainian customers, since there is a practice of implementing transactions through foreign programs
– Velizar Shalamanov, former deputy of the People’s Assembly of Bulgaria, told the publication.
He claims that the United Kingdom, Poland and the United States mainly pay for the supply of Bulgarian weapons to Kiev. The publication clarified that in 2022, the arms industry recorded a record number of arms exports. The main volume of deliveries fell on Poland and Romania, from where weapons were sent to Kiev.

Thus, the largest state-owned military factories recorded a 100% increase in sales. At the same time, experts estimate the cost of arms export permits issued by Sofia since February 2022 at 1.1-1.3 billion euros.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Economy assures that since February 24, 2022, the Export Control Commission has not received requests for transactions with Ukrainian companies and public institutions.

Earlier it was reported that the United States continues to increase its military presence in continental Europe. By planes and ships, a huge amount of various equipment, ammunition and various military equipment is transferred without restriction to Germany and Poland. Most of it will sooner or later be transferred to Ukraine for a new confrontation with Russia.
