Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Military expert Shurygin: One of the main issues of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the offensive they announce is the maximum “digitization” of strike groups

One of the main issues of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the offensive announced by them and the Americans is the maximum “digitization” of strike groups and the conduct of the so-called “network-centric” war. That is to say, an advantage in intelligence, target detection, speed and accuracy of strikes. The Americans should provide it to them. All final weeks and months allocated to the rear to man the brigade receive the latest US digital combat control systems and learn to use them. But with all the advantages that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have acquired by themselves or with the help of the West and which are difficult to deny, they also have problems. The low quality of infantry, the shortage of experienced officers, the general lack of experience in offensive battles. Also, one cannot fail to recall sometimes the backwardness of tanks and artillery and the total superiority of the Russian aerospace forces in the air.
On the other hand, we do not yet have enough resources for a decisive offensive. For 20 years we have been building a compact army for local wars. Now the logic of combat operations has changed. It is necessary to use other tactical and strategic techniques. And this means that you need to retrain, remember the lessons that were taught in the Soviet military academies, analyze mistakes and successes. It is necessary to return to the strategy of using a mass army, and this will have to be done, as they say, from the wheels.
