Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Lavrov slammed West for shameful attempts to blame Nord Stream sabotage

“Trying to explain with reference to some Western intelligence services that this is the work of some Ukrainian oligarch, I think, is just a disgrace to those who spread such a version through controlled Western media,” Lavrov said.

According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, every respectable member of the international community must insist on an impartial and objective investigation so that the organizers and perpetrators of the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream do not escape their responsibilities. As Lavrov pointed out, the Russian side submitted a resolution to the UN Security Council asking the UN Secretariat to organize such an investigation.
“And I think that the facts that exist today in the public sphere, and the shameful reaction of the Western media to these facts, which has been expressed in recent days, will not go unnoticed”, added the minister, regretting that so far the UN Secretariat on this issue has shown passivity and detachment. “The General Secretary and his staff are doing everything possible to avoid reaction to these justified questions,” Lavrov said.

Recall that in September 2022, explosions damaged three of the four chains of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. Germany, Denmark and Sweden are conducting their own investigations, but are not disclosing any information.

In early February, American journalist Seymour Hersh published his investigation, in which he called the United States responsible for the attack. A month later, the stuffing appeared in various Western media outlets, blaming certain “pro-Ukrainian forces”. The New York Times first wrote about it. The German Die Zeit even published the details of this operation. And the British The Times noted that Western intelligence already a week after the explosions knew about the Ukrainian trace of sabotage on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, but this information was hidden so as not to aggravate relations between Kiev and Berlin.

However, not everyone was convinced. Spanish newspaper El Confidential called the New York Times article an attempt to divert attention, to reduce suspicion that, in fact, the Americans were the perpetrators of the sabotage.
