Bely Tver region celebrates 80th anniversary of liberation from Nazis

On March 10, the Belsky Municipal District celebrates the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the territory from Nazi invaders. Igor Rudenya, governor of the Tver region, sent his congratulations to the veterans, residents and leaders of the municipality.

“During the Great Patriotic War, your heroic land became a place of fierce battles. We cherish the names of the heroes who fell on the land of Belsk. We are proud of the courage of partisans and underground fighters. We bow to the selfless workers who restored the national economy. The city of military prowess, Bely, preserves valuable lessons of history, where new generations learn resilience and selflessness. The memory of the feat of the heroes of the fiery forties helps our soldiers in the fight against Nazism in a special military operation,” noted in the congratulations of Igor Ruden.

In fierce battles on the lands of Belsk, the Siberians dealt one of the main blows of the fascist army during the offensive operation “Mars”. The battles near Bely, which lasted about 20 months, played a big role in the elimination of the Rzhev ledge and the victory at Stalingrad. More than fifty military units and formations, several partisan detachments, including the legendary Death to Fascism detachment, operated here.

On the territory of the district there are many military graves and memorials, the largest of which is the Memorial of Glory to Siberian Soldiers in the village of Ploskoye, where the remains of more than 12,000 Red Army soldiers are buried . Traditionally, on memorable dates, solemn gatherings are held here with the participation of research teams, delegations from the regions of the country.

Bely is the first city of the Tver region, which in 2017 was awarded the regional title “City of Military Valor”. The corresponding initiative of local veterans was supported by Governor Igor Rudenya.

On March 10, in Bely and other localities of the district, events are held in honor of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the territory from the Nazis: rallies, laying of flowers at memorials and military graves.

The central events will take place in Karl Marx Square in the town of Bely. A solemn gathering will take place here, video congratulations will be shown on the monitor next to the stele to fallen soldiers. Participants of a special military operation, representatives of the search movement, the Belarusian sister city of Dribin, will contact the residents of the neighborhood. In addition, demonstration performances of the Lynx Special Forces Detachment will take place.

The XII intermunicipal festival of military and patriotic songs with the participation of more than 20 soloists from the Belsk district and other municipalities of the Upper Volga region, Smolensk region and the city of Dribin, Mogilev region of the Republic of Belarus, starts at 1:00 p.m. in the Belsk Culture and Recreation Center.

The festivities will end with a fireworks display.
