Qatar University launched the innovation and entrepreneurship competition in its tenth session for the academic year 2023, under the title "Towards innovative national projects"To encourage students to undertake promising projects to form small and medium companies.
The competition this year, which is supervised by the Faculties of Engineering, Management and Economics, in cooperation with the Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development at the University, is characterized by its openness to students from all disciplines and encouraging them to create projects that contribute to the development of the local and knowledge economy in the country and community service.
Dr. Khaled Kamal Naji, Dean of the College of Engineering, said that this competition comes from our strategy in light of the Qatar Vision 2030 regarding economic development and human development. "Innovative ideas and entrepreneurship open new horizons for work and production and support the economic growth of the country".
He added that the competition seeks to support innovation and entrepreneurs at the university and provide all the needs that they need, indicating in this context that a number of workshops will be organized with the aim of giving the participants the opportunity to learn more details about the rules and stages of the competition, its timings, training programs and awards.
Dr. Naji called on all Qatar University students to participate in the competition and prove their abilities, in preparation for preparing them for the labor market and opening their own projects, and entering the world of competition, excellence and innovation in the Qatari labor market, which is witnessing amazing development at various levels.
In her turn, Dr. Rana Sobh, Dean of the College of Business and Economics, welcomed the idea of the competition, and hoped that there would be a wide participation of large numbers of students in the competition, to present projects with creative and unique ideas that have a qualitative addition to society, and are not repeated.
She added that the competition was prepared to motivate student talents and encourage them to develop and innovate so that they can take initiatives and enter the business sector, and contribute to educating students and spreading the culture of entrepreneurship among them.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Wahed, Director of the Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development at Qatar University, said that the competition is offered to all students of Qatar University, adding "I wish all students to participate and prove their abilities, in preparation for preparing them for the labor market, which is witnessing a remarkable development, and opening their own projects, and entering the world of competition, excellence and innovation.".
The organizers announced the start of registration for the competition through its website, and stressed that the participating teams should attend the training workshops, indicating that each team consists of a maximum of 5 participants, in addition to presenting a complete work plan for the project. According to the regulations organizing the competition, the winning projects and teams will be sorted and only ten finalists will be qualified to present their projects to the jury, while the competition team will hold training sessions prior to the final discussions under the supervision of a specialized expert committee.
At the end of the competition, the winners will receive financial prizes, and the winning teams will be able to obtain guidance and training from the Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development at Qatar University to be better able to prepare business plans, obtain the necessary financing for the project, and market outlets.
