The World Security Forum in Doha will resume its work on its second day

The Global Security Forum held in Doha resumed its work for the second day in a row by shedding light on some of the challenges and threats facing security and peace in the world and ways to overcome them, and the role assigned to regional and international institutions in this field.

The forum hosted, in two dialogue sessions, His Excellency Mr. Teo Che Hen, Chief Minister and Coordinating Minister of National Security of Singapore, and His Excellency Mr. Musa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, in the framework of monitoring the repercussions on the global arena in light of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its repercussions on various regions of the world, including Asia and Africa.

HE Mr. Hen touched on the changing dynamics on the world stage from Singapore’s perspective, in light of the repercussions of the war in Ukraine, and the repercussions of Sino-American relations on Asia and the Pacific, pointing to the consequences of these crises, wars and conflicts on security and development in the world.

He pointed out that the world, in recent years, has faced many crises that affected energy and food security, such as the Corona (Covid-19) pandemic crisis, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the climate crisis, and other crises.

He believed that the world needs three elements to face the current challenges, which are pluralism at the global level, strengthening resilience, and building sustainability. He said: "With these three approaches, we can face challenges and build a safer world".

The Singaporean Chief Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security stressed the importance of strengthening the role of international institutions as multilateral frameworks to build global partnerships to meet challenges, enhance resilience and achieve sustainable development.

For his part, HE Moussa Faki touched on the challenges facing African countries, including terrorism, conflicts, political crises, challenges to development and good governance, and the nature of the important contributions made by the African Union to international peace and security through its missions and partnerships with the United Nations.

He stressed that Africa has its own plan to build a new Africa that meets aspirations, aspirations and hopes, in addition to its insistence on strengthening infrastructure and opening up to the world, warning of the threat of terrorism, which poses a challenge and requires international cooperation and support to confront it on the African continent.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission pointed out that Africa is still absent from global decision-making platforms because it is excluded from some international institutions such as the Security Council and the World Bank. "The need to reform the United Nations".

He noted that Africa has taken many steps to move forward towards the path of peace, in light of the need to achieve the principle of accountability, social justice, economic development and development goals.

The agenda for the second day of the forum includes a number of sessions and dialogues with officials and decision-makers representing countries and regional and global organizations, as well as researchers and those interested in global peace and security issues.

It is noteworthy that the Global Security Forum, which is held under the slogan "Redrawing the contours of the world order: conflicts, crises and cooperation" In its fifth edition, it focuses on the international approach to conflict and crisis management and cooperation, and includes discussions on topics such as the global energy crisis, the approach to promoting sustainable economies, the great power rivalry whose peak was the war in Ukraine, as well as the role of the United Nations Security Council.

Participants will also discuss the issues of combating international terrorism, emerging threats, far-right networks and their financing, and the risks of disinformation and false news.

The forum is witnessing high-level participation that brings together a number of government leaders, ministers, heads of security agencies and government policy makers, in addition to specialized experts, academics, journalists and private sector leaders from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Far East.

The findings of the forum, which concludes tomorrow, will be combined into an in-depth report, to provide an overview and strategic assessment of security issues with policy proposals needed to address global security challenges in 2023.
