Foods and drinks that cause thirst, beware of consuming them frequently during Ramadan

If you suffer from thirst during the day in Ramadan, you should review your food menu, especially during the Suhoor meal. It is possible for some foods to increase your thirst, especially when consumed in abundance, so we offer you a group of drinks and foods that increase the feeling of thirst during fasting periods.

Foods that contain starches Carbohydrates or starches are a major source of energy in the human body, and despite being healthy and beneficial, they may be a source of thirst, even if this does not appear immediately after eating them, because excessive eating makes them stored in the body in the form of glycogen, which Retains water.

Excessive sweets after breakfast Some people postpone dessert until before Suhoor, but this must be done with caution, or at least well before Suhoor, due to the way sugar interacts within the cells of the body.

Coffee and tea Caffeine found in some drinks, such as coffee, tea and some soft drinks, causes thirst, and the secret is that it is a diuretic, which causes dehydration of the body from water and increases thirst and requires drinking a lot of water. Therefore, it is advised not to overeat it after breakfast.

High-sodium foods Sodium is found in high proportions in some foods, such as processed meats, processed cheese, etc., and the reason for thirst is that sodium causes a disturbance in the fluid balance in the cells of the body.

Salty foods Salt is absorbed into the bloodstream, which makes the blood more salty than it was, and then the cells try to retain water and send a message to the part responsible for thirst in the brain, so it is preferable not to eat salty foods or pickles at suhoor.
