As there are some diseases in which breakfast is obligatory for fear of complications due to refraining from eating and drinking. Dr. Aysar Al-Hamoud gave a set of important advice to the Qatari community during the holy month of Ramadan. In an interview with Al Sharq, he said that it is necessary to distinguish between our behavior in Ramadan and the habit of fasting. He added that the problems of sleep disorders and changing the daily routine is the reason for the lack of activity in the month of Ramadan, explaining that fasting is useful because it is a period that stimulates all the activities of the body in order to carry out rehabilitation and maintenance of the body in periods of abstinence from food. As revealed by Dr. Ayser Al-Hamoud stated that some patients with brain and nerves may be prevented from fasting during the month of Ramadan, as their health condition requires breaking the fast during the holy month. He added in statements to Al Sharq that despite the benefits of fasting for the body in general, there are some patients with the nervous system whose health condition requires breaking the fast during Ramadan. He pointed out that «a number of patients with brain and nerves are already suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart patients, and they may need to take additional drug treatment doses in the middle of the day».

As for patients with the nervous system itself, he stated that “such as a stroke patient or what is known as a brain stroke, he certainly needs, in the early stage of his illness, intravenous medications and solutions, and perhaps to drink a sufficient amount of water throughout the day to work on improving the blood supply to the brain.”

As for patients with epilepsy, perhaps many of them need to maintain the level of diabetes in the blood at an adequate level, and its decrease may cause stimulation of the epileptic focus and thus the occurrence of an epileptic seizure, in addition to that, perhaps the patient himself needs doses of anti-epileptic drugs distributed over the hours of the day ».

There are patients with myasthenia gravis and patients with Parkinson’s disease who need to take medication at close intervals, approximately every 4 hours. He concluded by saying: “The Department of Neurology at Al-Emadi Hospital deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system, and it is equipped with the most modern EEG machines in Qatar. Neurologists treat any disease of the body’s systems that affects nerve function. The department also provides complete consulting, diagnostic, and therapeutic services for patients suffering from brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles.
