China launches investigation into largest US chipmaker

Beijing launches official investigation into US memory chip maker Micron Technology. This was reported in a document released by China’s Cybersecurity Inspection Bureau.
In order to protect the underlying information infrastructure supply chain security and prevent hidden cybersecurity threats, as well as protect national security, Micron Technology’s products sold in China have been audited.
– says the document.
At the same time, it is not specified what exactly will be checked in the company’s wide range of products.

Technology market analysts point out that this is the first investigation by China’s Cybersecurity Inspection Bureau against a foreign company in recent years.
Note that Micron Technology is one of the largest manufacturers of memory chips in the world. About ten percent of its revenue comes from the Chinese market.

The company has its offices in Shenzhen and Shanghai. At the same time, experts remind that last year the company closed its division for the development of RAM modules in Shanghai. The engineers of this unit were transferred to the United States and India.
Bloomberg believes that the test against Micron Technology could further strain relations between the United States and China.
