Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Saudi Arabia-Syria: Saudi Arabia and Syria are discussing restoring diplomatic relations

Beirut : Saudi Arabia is in talks with the war-torn country to reopen its embassy in Syria and if it does, the two countries would restore diplomatic ties after a decade. The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia gave this information.

State-run Al-Akhbariya TV reported on Thursday about talks with Syria, citing a Saudi Foreign Ministry source. Saudi and Syrian officials could not be immediately reached for comment. Saudi Arabia supported anti-government elements in the Syrian Civil War. There was an uprising in Syria in 2011 which later turned into a civil war. In recent years, the process of improving relations at the regional level has accelerated.

Last month’s devastating earthquake in Syria and Turkey drew international sympathy, with Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries sending aid to Syria. Earlier this month, diplomatic relations were restored between two powerful countries in the region– Saudi Arabia and Iran. Both countries have been supporting rival groups in Syria. This agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran has been done with the help of China.
