New Delhi: With India becoming the most populous country in the world, the United Nations predicts that the country’s population may continue to grow for the next three decades and then this phenomenon will begin. India has overtaken China to become the most populous country in terms of population. According to the latest figures of the United Nations, the population of India is 142.86 crores. The population of China is 142.57 crores and it is the second most populous country.
According to the United Nations World Population Forecast-2022, by 2050 India’s population may reach 166.8 crores, while China’s population may decrease to 131.7 crores. According to the analysis of the United Nations, the demography of India may be different from state to state. It said that Kerala and Punjab have more elderly population, while Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have more youth population. Andrea Wojnar, United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) India representative and Bhutan director, said that “India’s 1.4 billion population should be seen as 1.4 billion opportunities”.
