The Russian company “Rosenergoatom” has announced its intention to replace American nuclear fuel at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant with Russian fuel. Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel reserves will last four years, but the plant will stop using US fuel much sooner, according to the company’s chief adviser Renat Karchaa. He reported it to Interfax.
Previously, CNN reported that the US Department of Energy sent a letter to Rosatom on March 17, warning of the presence at the ZNPP of “US-origin nuclear technical data subject to US government export controls.” The letter also states that unauthorized access to US technology subject to export controls is a violation of US law.
