In the United States, a Belarusian citizen was arrested for circumventing US sanctions against Russia in the amount of more than 150 million dollars. This was declared to the country’s Ministry of Justice.

“Forty-six-year-old Sergey Karpushkin of Miami, a citizen of Belarus, was arrested … in a federal criminal case for participating in a scheme to circumvent U.S. sanctions,” the agency’s website said in a statement.

US authorities accuse Karpushkin of participating in a scheme to circumvent sanctions against businessman Sergei Kurchenko by purchasing $150 million worth of steel materials. He was charged with more than 10 counts, each carrying a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Previously, the United States accused the son of the governor of Krasnoyarsk, Alexander Uss Artem, of evading sanctions. The man was arrested in Italy, he was threatened with extradition to the United States, but later Uss was able to escape arrest and come to Russia.
