Target to make 121 airports of the country carbon free by 2025: Scindia

New Delhi. 25 airports in India are using 100 percent green energy, while another 121 airports will achieve the target of zero carbon emissions by 2025. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Sidhiya said this on Thursday.

Scindia addressed the two-day ‘EU-India Aviation Summit’ virtually. He could not be physically present at the conference due to being infected with the Corona virus. Emphasizing that tackling climate change is a common goal for India and the European Union (EU), Scindia said, The share of the aviation industry in We have taken a number of steps to reduce and offset carbon emissions from the aviation industry.

The Civil Aviation Minister said, “We are motivating our airports to use green energy by 2024 and achieve the target of zero carbon emission by 2030. While 25 airports in India are using 100 per cent green energy, we aim to achieve zero carbon emission target for another 121 airports by 2025. The summit began on Thursday. It will discuss the air transport relationship between the EU and India, mutual shared challenges and opportunities in both sectors. The conference will be attended by top level policy makers, industry executives and stakeholders from the EU and India.

Scindia said that India has improved the regulatory environment to promote aircraft manufacturing in the country. He called on EU industry to seize the opportunities and be part of the fastest growing aviation industry in the world.
