Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Arab League renews its appeal to the Sudanese parties to cease fire and open humanitarian corridors

The League of Arab States has renewed its appeal to all parties in Sudan, the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, to announce a cease-fire on the days of Eid Al-Fitr, allowing civilians to catch a breath, meet their humanitarian needs, and deal with critical and urgent humanitarian cases. This came in a speech by Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, during his participation in the special and emergency ministerial meeting on the situation in Sudan, which was organized today by the African Union Commission, via visual communication technology. Aboul Gheit stressed the need for serious engagement in order to achieve a ceasefire that would be respected and allow for the opening of humanitarian corridors and the restoration of the peaceful path, with the establishment of a new phase that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and enhances security and political and economic stability in this important country. He added that the Arab League would send a high-level delegation as soon as it was able to reconcile the parties and contribute to efforts to stabilize the ceasefire and restore the peaceful path, while welcoming at the same time the coordination of regional and international efforts to achieve these goals. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, the Executive Secretary of IGAD, foreign ministers and senior officials of Sudan’s neighboring countries, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and the African members of the Security Council participated in the meeting. .
