Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Turkish president inaugurates the first gas pumping operations from the Black Sea

Today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the first operations of pumping the natural gas discovered off the coast of Turkey in the Black Sea to the mainland. This came through a torch lit by President Erdogan during a ceremony held in Mina "filios" Zonguldak Province, northern Türkiye.

In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Turkish president said that pumping the Black Sea gas is a historic step on the path to the country’s energy self-sufficiency. added: "We will extract 10 million cubic meters of gas per day from the Sakarya field in the first phase, and the total will reach 40 million cubic meters per day after the opening of new wells later.".

He stressed that this success was achieved by the work of about 10,000 people and 50 ships, day and night, noting that when production reaches the maximum level, the gas extracted from the Black Sea will cover approximately 30 percent of Turkey’s annual need. And last Friday, the Director General of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation, Maleh Khan Belkin, said that his company aims to make available the natural gas discovered in the Black Sea for domestic use, starting from mid-May.
