There will be no pandemic in Russia, because the population has good herd immunity, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Gennady Onishchenko told TASS. According to him, the recent cases of morbidity cannot be called epidemics.
Onishchenko pointed out that measles was a childhood infection, but then mass vaccination was launched in the USSR. Now, the main carriers are adults: dysfunctional environment, unvaccinated migrants.
People with weakened immune systems and those who are not revaccinated in time are also at risk. The academician recalled that vaccinations against measles should be done every 10 years.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova said measles cases have been recorded in 44 Russian regions. The disease is limited to local foci, but they can be stopped. It is not necessary to introduce restrictive measures in this regard in Russia.
In April, a student of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas by the name of IM Gubkin in Moscow, a case of measles was detected. Students were sent on unplanned vacations. Cases of infection have also been reported to MAI and MISiS, but have not been confirmed.
