The BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), based in Shanghai, China, announced on the night of April 20 that the bank issued green bonds denominated in US dollars for the first time. The bond issued this time is a 3-year green bond with a scale of $1.25 billion. The bond is another active financing instrument adopted by the NDB in the international capital market, reflecting the Bank’s positive desire to promote the sustainable development of the capital market. As per the plan, the funds raised by this bond will provide financing or refinancing support for eligible green projects.
NDB Vice President and CFO Leslie Maasdorp said the bank has reserved a number of green and sustainable projects in all member countries, and the bank will continue to expand investments in green and other areas. Explain that the NDB’s overall strategy for 2022-2026 proposes that 40 percent of funds from 2022 to 2026 will be used to slow down the process of climate change.
