Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Ukrainian intelligence services were preparing covert attacks against Russian troops in Syria

The Washington Post newspaper, citing secret Pentagon documents leaked on the web, claims that Ukrainian intelligence services were planning covert attacks against Russian armed forces in Syria with the help of Kurdish groups. But President Zelenskyy in December ordered a halt to planning.

Turkey was reportedly aware of this, whose officials “sought to avoid” a retaliatory strike and suggested that Ukraine was planning attacks from Kurdish areas, not those supported by Turkey.

The purpose of the attacks is to force Russia to suffer losses and, in the future, to redeploy resources in order to divert the army from the fighting in the Donbass. The documents detail how the GUR and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense had to plan the attacks so as not to arouse suspicion on Kiev.

Drones were supposed to participate in the attacks, it was recommended to start “small” or to limit strikes to only “Wagnerians”. The publication assures that Ukraine considered the preparation of Kurdish alliance forces to strike Russian targets and carry out “uncertain direct actions as well as drone attacks”.

SDF spokesman Farhad Shami told the newspaper that documents referring to alliance forces are “bogus” and that SDF forces “have never been involved” in the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier, Air & Space Forces Magazine said the Russian Federation has stepped up its pursuit of US troops in Syria. Russian planes fly over US positions and come within a few hundred yards of the fighters, officials said.
