Russian athletes marched under the national flag at the opening of the Games in Venezuela

The Russian team marched with the national flag during the opening ceremony of the Bolivarian Games in Venezuela. This is reported by the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. The Russian flag was carried by boxer Ivan Veryasov and tennis player Elizabeth Abrahamyan.

The V Games of the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America have opened in Venezuela. They will take place from April 21 to 29. The solemn ceremony took place in the town of La Guaira at the Jorge Luis Garcia Carneiro baseball stadium. Competitions will also be held in the capital of the country – Caracas.

The Russian team for participation in the V Bolivarian Games included 48 athletes. Russians will compete for awards in seven sports: boxing, beach volleyball, karate, table tennis, trampoline, weightlifting, rhythmic gymnastics.

In particular, world and European boxing champion Ekaterina Paltseva, European boxing champion Daria Abramova, European karate champions Anna Chernysheva and Evgeny Plahutin, World Trampoline Championship bronze medalist Yana Lebedeva and other athletes will perform in Venezuela.

In total, medals in 35 sports will be contested at the Games. Our athletes will compete under the national flag. This will happen for the first time after a long series of suspensions and sanctions imposed on Russian sports.

Earlier, Russian athletes reacted to the recommendations of the IOC executive committee on the admission of Russians to participate in the competitions.
