At the May 6 ceremony at Westminster Abbey, a special edition of the Bible handcrafted by the University of Oxford will be used, informed finebooksmagazine.com portal.

The intricate design of the leather binding, adorned with gold leaf by renowned bookbinding firm Shepherds, Sangorski & Sutcliffe, is meant to symbolize the king’s love for nature, from which he drew his strength.

The Bible will play an important role in the ceremony, and the king will have to get his hands on it when taking the coronation oath. The tradition of making Bibles specifically for accession to the throne dates back to Edward VII in 1902.

Oxford University has produced Coronation Bibles for many British monarchs, most recently for Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
