Caroline van der Plas, leader of the right-wing Dutch Citizen-Farmer Movement party, refused to attend a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She herself announced it on Twitter.
“I informed the speaker of parliament that I would not attend the meeting with Zelenskyy,” van der Plas wrote.
The politician explained her position by the fact that on May 4, the victims of the Second World War among the Dutch are commemorated every year in her country.
“And it should be May 4 Central, not Zelenskyy,” she said.
Zelenskyy flew to the Netherlands on the evening of May 3, immediately after a short visit to Finland, where he met with leaders from the Nordic countries. In the Netherlands, the Ukrainian leader is due to meet with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, as well as a public speech in The Hague.
