Ear blockage on the plane. A nurse reveals a “smart trick”

Experts say that blockage of the ears is due to the change in air pressure inside the plane, and thus causes a pressure difference between the middle ear and the outer ear.

This difference in pressure causes an “annoying buzz” in the middle ear, called barotrauma.

And the British newspaper “Daily Mail” claimed that a nurse who publishes educational videos on the TikTok platform revealed a “clever trick” to overcome the problem of blocked ears, especially during take-off and landing.

Nurse Charlotte Stanley explained that plastic cups and paper towels might be a better solution than yawning or chewing gum.

The trick, which has garnered more than 66,000 likes on TikTok, involves placing hot paper towels inside two plastic cups. After that, the ears are covered with caps.

Stanley said, “When you ask the stewardess for two plastic cups with hot paper towels…Trust me, the stewardess will know exactly what she wants to do.”

The nurse pointed out that the steam helps stabilize the pressure in the middle ear, noting that the trick is valid for children and adults.
