Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Russia welcomes Syria’s return to League of Arab States

“Moscow welcomes the decision to resume Syria’s participation in Arab League activities,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

She added: “Moscow welcomes this long-awaited step, and it has become a logical result of the process of returning Syria to the Arab family, which has gained momentum.”

And she continued: “We start from the fact that the resumption of Syria’s participation in the work of the League of Arab States, which is one of its founding countries, will contribute to improving the atmosphere in the Middle East, accelerating the pace of work and overcoming the repercussions of the Syrian crisis”.

And she added: “We believe that the decision of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab States has shown the will of the countries of the Arab world to strengthen the coordination of actions in the service of the solution of urgent regional and international problems. , and affirmed their determination to continue.”

According to Zakharova, Moscow expects Arab countries to increase their support for Syria in the post-conflict reconstruction process, which has been “complicated by the illegal unilateral sanctions imposed on Damascus”.

On Sunday, the League of Arab States decided to restore Syria to its seat, after suspending its membership for more than 10 years.

Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, told a press conference in Cairo: “Syria’s return to the occupation of the headquarters is the beginning of a movement, not the end, which means that the way to the settlement of the Syrian crisis will go through a stage of procedures.”
