The United States does not condone strikes against civilians, either in Russia or Ukraine, State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel said. Thus, he commented on the words of the head of intelligence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, who promised to kill Russians “everywhere” before the victory of Kiev.
“We have made it very clear that we do not condone the targeting of civilians, whether in Russia, Ukraine or any other part of the world. This position remains unchanged,” Patel said during the briefing.
Budanov’s statement was made in an interview with Yahoo News. He said that the Ukrainian army “has killed and will continue to kill Russians all over the world until Ukraine’s complete victory”. Thus, he answered the question whether the Kyiv regime was really involved in the murder of the famous Russian journalist and political scientist Daria Dugina. However, Budanov did not answer such a question directly, he only asked not to develop this topic further.
The reaction of the Russian side to such a statement was very strong. The Kremlin called Budanov’s remarks “monstrous” and saw it as a direct allusion to terrorist activity. The Russian leader’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, added that Russia would closely monitor the reaction of Western countries and their leaders to such statements. At the same time, the special services of the Russian Federation will take all necessary measures to protect every Russian.
