San Francisco: A US-based YouTuber intentionally destroyed an airplane wreckage for online views. He accepted his fault. In this case he faced a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Trevor Daniel Jacobs, 29, of Lompoc pleaded guilty to the federal investigation, according to the Justice Department. In this case, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. On December 23, 2021, Jacobs uploaded a YouTube video titled I Crashed My Airplane promoting Violet and depicting her parachuting from the plane and the subsequent crash of the plane. Jacobs admitted in his plea agreement that he wanted to make money through the videos.
On 24 November 2021, Jacob reportedly took off on a solo flight from Lompoc City Airport to Mammoth Lakes in his airplane. Jacob did not intend to reach his destination, rather he planned to crash his plane midway through the flight. He made a video of himself parachuting to the ground and his airplane landing and crashing. He accepted the plea agreement. Before take off, Jacobs installed several video cameras on various parts of the airplane and armed himself with a parachute, video camera and selfie stick.
About 35 minutes after takeoff, while flying over the Los Padres National Forest near Santa Maria, Jacobs ejected from the airplane and videotaped himself parachuting to the ground. Using video cameras mounted on selfie sticks and video cameras mounted on airplanes, Jacob was able to record the airplane. It touched down and crashed in a dry brush area in the Los Padres National Forest. The plea agreement states that after parachuting to the ground, Jacobs retrieved the location of the wreckage, the video recording of the flight, and the crash data of the airplane. The FAA revoked Jacob’s pilot license in April 2022.
